Kathryn Hahn opens up about acne struggles and saying no to makeup

Kathryn Hahn isn’t afraid to bare it all.

“I rarely wear makeup in my real life. A lot of the roles that I have done recently, I wear little-to-no makeup,” the “WandaVision” actress, 47, told People for their 2021 “Beautiful Issue.”

“Oddly, I wore more makeup when I was in my 20s. I feel like I’m wearing less and less the older I get.”

Hahn added that she’s “just not that bird” that goes for a full face of glam, and that she typically opts for tinted moisturizer and lipstick for a big event.

While the star may be comfortable in her own skin, however, her 11-year-old daughter Mae has recently taken an interest in all things beauty.

“I think that she wishes I had makeup on all the time. She wishes she had a more glamorous mother,” Hahn said. “She’s always like, ‘Can you brush your hair today?’ And I’m like, ‘I know.’ She always wishes I had color on my nails.”

Of Mae’s love of makeup, she joked, “It skipped a generation. My mother is very glamorous. I feel like my daughter is, too.”

As a teen, the SAG Award nominee said she went through a “goth period” where she piled on foundation to the point where “you needed a sandblaster to take it off.”

She later developed cystic acne, and “wore a ton of makeup” to cover her blemishes; they continued until her 40s, at which point she got her acne under control with a diligent skincare routine.

“Acne really does something to your self-esteem, especially when you’re on camera,” Hahn recalled. “Once that started clearing up, I definitely felt more comfortable not wearing makeup.”
