COVID is an IQ Test: How is your state doing?
Covid is, in part, an IQ test. Natural capability tests like this one occur frequently in organizations. Agilists can use them to improve their service to the organization.
When I started out as an agile consultant, I asked clients, “Are you smart enough to solve the problem?”
The question was perfectly predictive.
+ Clients who were not smart enough said they were.
+ Clients who were smart enough said they were not sure.
This natural test gave me insight at the start of the engagement.
Another example of a natural test is communication. If the organization cannot communicate up and down the hierarchy, then strategic initiatives are likely to have high failure rates.
You can quantify communication skills through observation. When a C-level executive says, “I and the CEO think that agile is the most important thing” observe whether other levels of the organization are saying the same.
How hard is this? Not very. Back in January, I wrote on LinkedIn, “The new coronavirus variant is real… It will outrun the vaccine and every other measure.” How did I know this? Because I read technical articles.
