Surprise! A Max Factor Archive Was Hidden in Redondo Beach

Max Factor is one of the most iconic names in beauty. He's responsible for a lot of Hollywood's classic glam and is even credited with inventing the word "makeup."

So if you're a fan of the brand, you're going to love this news: a woman in Redondo Beach discovered a huge pile of Factor's papers and records in her garage. The archive was from Max's son David and included 'promotional materials, document negatives, signed letters and unpublished memoirs,' as well as correspondence with the family's relatives back in Poland.

But the most important question is "Will this stuff ever go on display?" So far, archivists are still digging through the material and getting a sense of the scope. The Max Factor brand has been discontinued in the US but lives on in Europe, though his grandsons Dean and Davis Factor run Smashbox here in LA. Maybe the family will agree to let a museum or library display some of this classic beauty history? We can only hope.
