1999 Mika Salo Race BAR Formula 1 Suit

Race-used suit worn by Mika Salo during the 1999 F1 season. Salo, driving for the British American Racing Team, subbed in for the injured Ricardo Zonta for three rounds of the World Championship at San Marino, Monaco and Spain.

The blue and yellow suit has the iconic ‘555’ cigarette branding logo featured prominently on the front and back, as well as on the shoulders. The suit also bears the branding logos for Teleglobe, Bridgestone and Magnetti Marelli as well. Salo’s name and Finnish national flag are embroidered next to the right pocket.

Salo started his long successful racing career in Formula Ford, racing both in Finland and in the UK at the famous Festival held at the Brands Hatch Circuit. In 1989 he moved up to the competitive British F3 Championship. In 1990 he finished 2nd behind fellow Finn Mika Hakkinen in the final drivers standings.
