Carrie-Anne Moss and Richard Armitage join Brain On Fire

  • Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix) and Richard Armitage (The Hobbit series) have signed on for Brain on Fire from Gerard Barrett, who is directing, writing, and co-producing. An adaptation of Susannah Cahalan’s memoir, the film stars Chloë Grace Moretz as a New York Post journalist who begins experiencing seizures and hearing voices—her condition quickly worsens, until one doctor steps in. Moss and Armitage are set to play Susannah’s parents, Tom Cahalan and Rhona Nack. The film is in production in Vancouver, and is scheduled to release next year. [Deadline]
  • Brendan Coyle has signed on for the upcoming historical drama-thriller, The Rising, about Ireland’s 1916 Easter Rising. The actor, best known for playing Mr. Bates on Downton Abbey, will play politician Augustine Birrell in the film, which is a prequel to Michael Collins and The Wind that Shakes the Barley. Michael Neeson stars as Irish revolutionary Michael Collins—a part his father, Liam Neeson, starred as in 1996’s titular film. Colin Morgan, meanwhile, will play the man behind the Easter Rising, Sean McDermott, with David O’Hara as revolutionary leader James Connolly. Kevin McCann is directing and producing; he also wrote the screenplay with co-writer Colin Broderick. [Variety]
