NBC’s Hatfields & McCoys pilot just cast the other matriarch.

Rebecca De Mornay (John from Cincinnati) will play Mary Hatfield in the contemporary spin on the feud between the wealthy Hatfields and the working-class McCoys. Nick Westrate (Mildred Pierce) also was cast to play her husband Randall. Other castmembers include Virginia Madsen (Eloise McCoy), Jesse Lee Soffer (Patrick McCoy) and Patrick John Flueger (Jack McCoy).

The pilot is from writer John Glenn and executive producers Charlize Theron, Dawn Olmstead and Beau Flynn. Here is the official logline for NBC’s version of Hatfields & McCoys: “Set in present day Pittsburgh, a startling death re-ignites the feud between these two legendary families. Unleashing decades of resentment, the blue collar McCoys will put the Hatfields’ wealth and power at risk as they go to war for control of the city.”

NBC’s decision to update the story follows on the heels of History’s enormous success with the period miniseries of the same name, which was seen by 14 million viewers last May.
