🇦🇹 Austria

The Austrian test phase is led by the Austrian Institute of Construction Engineering (OIB) and the Austrian Climate Ministry (BMK), with the involvement of AEE Intec and of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU) who are conducting the assessments. The focus of the test phase is to benchmark the SRI methodology against other methods developed in Austria with a focus on energy flexibility. A large number of different building typologies are examined and assessed on the basis of detailed documented buildings from Austrian regions or the federal government.

➜ The SRI Support Team has provided Austria with support material in German (SRI calculation sheet, practical guide, training slide deck).

🇨🇿 Czech Republic

The Czech test phase is led by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO), with support from the Department of Environmental and Building Services Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU). During the test phase the common SRI methodology is applied, and depending on the sensitivity of the results, some adaptations may be undertaken in a later phase. SRI evaluations are conducted by the team of the University. The test phase should last around one year.

➜ The SRI Support Team has provided Czech Republic with some communication and technical material, and is supporting the recruitment of buildings to be assessed.

🇩🇰 Denmark

The Danish test phase is led by the Danish Energy Agency (DEA) in cooperation with the Danish Technological Institute (DTI). The purpose is to investigate potentials and opportunities for the SRI in a Danish context. Assessors from DTI will conduct the SRI assessment for 25-30 buildings, including offices, dwellings, multi-familiy homes, educational institutions – old and new, and with different energy supplies.

➜ The SRI Support Team has provided Denmark with an ad-hoc tool to generate SRI certificates from the SRI calculation sheet.

🇫🇷 France

The French test phase is led by the Ministry for Ecological Transition with the support of CEREMA. SRI assessments are going to be conducted by independent third parties: EPC assessors are going to be recruited and trained for that purpose by CEREMA, who will in turn deliver formal SRI certificates. The target is to assess at least 30 buildings as a first step.

➜ The SRI Support Team has supported France in adapting the SRI assessment package and the SRI training slide deck to the French context; and has provided a tailored and automated certificate template enabling CEREMA to easily generate SRI certificates, and a tailored online validation questionnaire to check external assessors’ capacity to conduct SRI assessments.

The call for application of membership for the SRI Platform Working Groups closed at the end of January and was answered with an abundance of requests for memberships. The consortium is pleased to observe this amount of interest and drive to get engaged in the SRI Platform working groups from a broad range of stakeholders. This allowed a balanced composition of stakeholder types to be attained in the Working Groups, in line with the targeted “ideal” composition. Unfortunately, membership could not be granted to all applications as the working group positions are limited. All applicants are gratefully acknowledged for their interest in the SRI and their eagerness to get involved in the forward-looking discussions on the SRI.

Participation to the SRI Platform is open to all and all stakeholders interested are invited to join the plenary sessions of the SRI Platform.

❇️ Next Steps of the SRI Platform

The next steps in the activities of the SRI platform concern the start-up and kick-off of the first Working Group (WG) sessions on the 3 thematic aspects:

• WG1: Member State SRI test phase;
• WG2: Maintenance and potential extension of the SRI calculation methodology;
• WG3: SRI value proposition and supporting measures.

When organizational aspects - such as setting up a governance structure - are arranged, the Working Group members are invited to jointly define the agenda including a working programme for the upcoming period and organize Working Group meetings on a regular basis for their working group all with assistance of the SRI support team.

After a successful kick-off of the plenary session of the SRI Platform, we are currently working on organising the second edition of the plenary meeting of the SRI Platform. During this plenary meeting, the agenda (working programme) of the 3 Working Groups will be presented for the upcoming period. A detailed agenda and exact timing will be announced later.

The SmartBuilt4EU H2020 project is tasked with drafting a Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda (SRIA) for smart buildings. This will define Research & Innovation (R&I) priorities and report how European research & innovation frameworks can be used to tackle these challenges. In the process of developing the SmartBuilt4EU White Papers, 179 R&I gaps have been identified so far. These have been grouped and prioritised, resulting in a suggested list of 10 key priorities.

Organized by the EU H2020 SmartBuilt4EU Project, this webinar will present the main operating principles of the SRI indicator, practical aspects of the SRI test phase in France, and a selection of work and tools developed to facilitate the understanding and deployment of the SRI.

Presentations will be delivered by ECTP, CEREMA, R2M Solution, Dowel Innovation and LIST.
