In summer of 2024, Voorlinden is creating an extraordinary world within its museum walls with an overwhelming solo exhibition by Ron Mueck (1958). Thanks to his unparalleled craftsmanship and incredible attention to detail, he creates stunningly realistic and intimate sculptures. At Voorlinden, you will see how he flawlessly conveys universal experiences and feelings with very large and very small works.
Ron Mueck - Couple under Umbrella, Collection Voorlinden
The Australian sculptor is known in the Netherlands for his Couple under an Umbrella. This work is one of Voorlinden’s permanent highlights. Mueck worked as a professional puppeteer and puppet maker for 20 years before he started making hyper-realistic sculptures. Each of Mueck’s works breathes life and emotion.
‘I never made life-size figures because it never seemed to be interesting. We meet life-size people every day. [Altering the scale] makes you take notice in a way that you wouldn’t do with something that’s just normal.
