Chillin’ With Lyndsy Fonseca

By Joseph Luparello

Born in Oakland, California, award-winning actress Lyndsy Fonseca was raised in the Los Angeles area.

Growing up as a professionally trained dancer, she spent hours in dance studios, competing, and touring before landing her first big break in television at just 14 years old on “The Young and the Restless.” The role forever changed her career trajectory, and she has been working in film and television ever since. While bringing characters to life and storytelling are two of Lyndsy’s greatest passions, she has a huge place in her heart for giving back. Over the years, she has raised money for orphanages in Haiti through CrowdRise, donated to No Kid Hungry, and is passionate about animal rights and supporting non-profit animal rescue organizations.

From starring in blockbuster films to portraying a myriad of characters in critically acclaimed television series, Lyndsy has been entertaining audiences for nearly two decades, and she is not letting off the gas anytime soon.

This year, Lyndsy can be seen starring in the highly anticipated, Disney+ action/comedy series “Turner & Hooch” opposite Josh Peck. Created and Executive Produced by Matt Nix, the series is inspired by the 1989 iconic Tom Hanks film of the same name. It follows the Turner family (Peck, Fonseca) as they set out to solve the mystery of their father’s death (Hanks). Lyndsy is a scene-stealer as Laura Turner, Scott Turner’s animal-loving sister, who ultimately becomes immersed in the investigation of her father’s past. “Turner & Hooch” premiered on Disney+ July 21, 2021.

In the film realm, one of her most prominent roles was as Katie Deauxma in Lionsgate’s “Kick-Ass” and “Kick-Ass 2” opposite Aaron Taylor Johnson. The movies grossed a combined $156,984,000+ at the global box office. She also appeared in MGM’s “Hot Tub Time Machine” opposite John Cusack and Sebastian Stan.

Listing all of Fonseca’s accolades would take quite a while. So, to touch base on a few, there is her 3 Choice TV Actress: Action nominations at the Teen Choice Awards in 2011, 2012, and 2013 for her work on the hit CW series “Nikita.” She was also nominated alongside the cast of ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” at the 2008 and 2009 Screen Actors Guide Awards in the category of Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

As a new mom, Lyndsy is fascinated with child psychology and conscious parenting. She acknowledges her participation as a consumer and student of child science; being introspective about her own childhood and raising children in today’s climate.

Chilled sat with Fonseca to learn about her treasured dining establishments, imbibing preferences, and what she learned from the Covid-19 mania.

Tell us about the projects you are working on.

I recently wrapped a feature film called Spinning Gold. I play a real living person, Joyce Biawitz, who co-managed KISS and Donna Summer. The film takes place in the ’70s. Throughout filming, I was surrounded by Grammy winners and Broadway stars. I was in heaven watching all of these creative people around me.

With your busy schedule, what do you like to do with your downtime?

My husband Noah Bean and I have a 3-year-old, so between juggling our careers that take us all over the world and our kid, we rarely have free time. Having a date night or an afternoon for yoga is a real treat!

When you go out to eat, where do you like to dine?

When we are in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles, we love a date night at our local spot, Little Beast. We always love trying to find the best sushi in any city or town we go to. We recently went to Miku in Vancouver with friends.

What types of dishes do you typically order?

I’m a pescatarian so I’m always on the hunt for plant-based restaurants, and I love Mediterranean food. I mean, I really will try anything, so I love discovering new dishes.

Any favorite bars?

I love a good bar. There’s just that thing you cannot quite explain when you find a little gem of a bar. When we were doing a play in Scotland at the Edinburgh theater festival, we tried to find the most authentic bars with no tourists.

What drinks do you order when out? Favorite drink?

If I’m eating dinner, I tend to order a wine that pairs well with the food. If I am indulging in cocktail hour, I usually order a gin, dirty martini. If it is after dinner, I sometimes try bourbon or whiskey.

Do you prepare drinks at home?

I do like to make drinks at home. We always keep red wine in the house. During quarantine last year, we had some friends stay with us who are NYC bartenders. I finally learned how to make the perfect martini from my friend Chris.

Tell us about your home bar. What is it stocked with?

We have it all!! I love when friends bring drinks over that I haven’t tried before. We have a beautiful crystal decanter from my mother-in-law that’s been in the family since she was very young, and I love it.

Have you ever been a bartender?

I have never been a bartender! Having friends who have bartended has made me appreciate the craft!
