[Paris]: NP, 1900. Original document. Softcover. g- to vg. Quarto. 29 loose photographic plates resting in two custom-made cardboard slipcases.
Striking collection of 29 vintage silver gelatin prints depicting some of the most renowned, historically and culturally significant buildings and landmarks of the city, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Opera building, the Champs-Elysées, the Louvre, the Luxemburg Palace, the Arc of Triumph, the City Hall, Napoleon I's Tomb, the Place de la Concorde, the Pantheon, Versailles, etc... Six of the photographs have been splendidly hand-colored, and show the following: Aerial view of Versailles, Napoleon I's Tomb, two inside views of the Opera, the Médicis Fountain in the Luxemburg Garden, and an aerial view of the Louvre and the Tuileries Garden.
This series of photographs must have been taken at the occasion of the upcoming Exposition Universelle (World's Fair) of 1900.
Each photograph measures appr. 7 3/8 x 4 6/8" and is pasted on heavy captioned cardstock (9 6/8 x 7").
Closed tears and sporadic rubbing along edges of slipcases. Minor to moderate foxing to cardstock, slightly affecting a few photographs. Captions in French. Slipcases in overall good-, cardstock in good- to good+, photographs in very good condition.
