On June 15, 2021, eBay banned adult content from being sold there. This is part of a collection of 27,000 + screenshots and photos collected over a 6 week period to archive that era on eBay before it was closed down. 

The eBay Adult Only Master Collection serves as an archive of price and content for the material that was being sold in eBay's adult only categories and samples most areas of eBay's adult listings which routinely contained nearly 800,000 items. The eBay Adult Only Master Collection is available as a donation to institutions on Blu-ray M-Disc.

Backstory to the project...

I had originally shot +/-35,000 screenshots looking through +/-85,000 auctions; but many of the screenshots were flawed due to eBay inserting pop-up screens over the photos at the last second the screenshot was captured. I wasted a lot of time reshooting screenshots 2 or 3 times to try and avoid the pop-ups. During the time I was trying to archive material, items were being sold, last minute auctions were closing and eBay started to remove listings in an effort to shut down the adult only content. Consequently time was of the essence and I was not able to reshoot every flawed screenshot; so some of the material archived contains pop-up images.

When I first heard about eBay's plan to remove adult material from the site I had contacted 'The Data Hoarders' on Reddit. (They are a group of informal archivists.) I posted a thread there asking if anyone would be interested in taking on this archive project. Immediately after I posted the thread they took it down. I also posted notices to a few other forums and got no interest. Since I could not find anyone interested in the project, I took it on myself. Even though I was not able to give the project all the time I wanted to, I still managed to document enough of the material to record a fair representation of what eBay's adult only section was like.
